Q:  How do I change the size of the text so I can see the Web site better?

A:  If you are using a PC running Windows: You can do one of two things. The first is a simple fix and will only apply during the time you have the browser open; once you close the browser your settings will go back to the default. The second is a more permanent fix and will affect everything you see on your computer.

1) You can use the View menu on the Netscape, Internet Explorer or Opera browser while you are viewing the Web site. Click on "View" then highlight "Text size" and click "largest" or the percentage size of your choice. Older versions of Netscape use "Increase Font Size" in the View menu.

OR

2) Click on your "Start" button at the bottom left of your desktop screen. Highlight the "Settings" menu, then click on "Control Panel." Double-click the "Display" icon. You will see a window with several tabs at the top. Click the "Settings" tab.

In the bottom right of the Settings window, you will see a section called "Screen Area" that shows a slider with the word "Less" on the left and "More" on the right. Slide the bar to the "Less" side one notch, then click the OK button. A message will appear telling you the system is resetting your desktop and you will see the results in a few seconds. Once the screen has redrawn, you should see larger icons and larger type. If you like what you see, click the "Yes" button. If you don't like what you see, click the "No" button, or you can wait for 15 seconds without doing anything and your screen will return to the original setting. You can experiment with the slider bar until you get the size of text and icons you wish.

On a Mac: Open the Web site in Netscape or Internet Explorer. In the "View" menu, highlight "Text Zoom" and click whichever increased percentage you wish.

Q: Why do I keep getting a "server busy" error when I use the Student Toolbox?

A: If you are using the Toolbox during a registration period (usually about one month before the next quarter beings) many people are accessing information at the same time. The current servers are not able to handle the traffic load they are receiving. LWTC will be undergoing a system change in mid- to late-2006 and you should see an improvement once the new system is in place.

Q: Why can't I access the Student Toolbox 24 hours a day?

A: The current servers that handle traffic from the Student Toolbox are also used to run jobs that provide a great deal of information to the college and help with accounting, record-keeping, etc. The servers cannot handle the load of running projects and sending/receiving information to the many databases used for the Toolbox at the same time. In mid- to late-2006 LWTC will be undergoing a system change and you should be able to have access to the Toolbox tools more hours than you do now.

Q: I try to use the Student Toolbox during a time when it isn't supposed to be available and I get a "server busy" error telling me to try again. Should I continue to try even after hours?

A: The message you receive is a standard message and not entirely accurate. The Webmaster at LWTC does not have access to that message to change it. If you are trying to access the Student Toolbox tools after the posted time of use (view the hours page), you should not keep trying as you will continue to receive the same message. The server is busy running jobs for the college and is not available to provide the Toolbox information at that time.

Q:  How do I know where to go within the Web site to find the information I want?

A:  The LWTC site is designed so you aren't overwhelmed with information. You simply have to ask yourself whether you interested in attending the college in the future (Future Student), whether you attend now (Current Student), whether you have never been here before and need maps or information on the college itself (About LWTC), or whether you are an alumni or someone who would like to do business with the college (Friends and Alumni). You may be part of a group that participates in special classes outside the normal scheduled courses (also Friends and Alumni). Each of those entryways is called a portal.

Whichever group you are in, you will find answers to your questions within that portal designed for you. If you want further information you may switch portals or use the search box found at the bottom right of every page.

Q:  How do I get back to the home page after browsing other pages in the site?

A:  You may click on the logo at the top left corner of any page within the site to return to the home page. You may also click on the word "Home" near the right of the bottom orange bar of every page.

Q:  Does the college offer services open to the public?

A:  Yes! We have many services the public may take advantage of such as our restaurant, bakery, bookstore, floral shop, library, early learning center and more. Just click the Community Mall button near the left of the bottom orange bar found on each page. You will see a menu of choices on the left-hand side. Click whichever interests you for hours and location of that service within the college.

Q:  I can see this quarter's and next quarter's class schedule, but the system won't let me register for next quarter. Why not?

A:  Even though we publish the upcoming quarter's classes, you cannot register until your official registration date. To find out what that is, use the Registration Appointment page in the Student Toolbox menu of Current Students. You will need your student ID number and PIN. If you do not have an ID and PIN, please call Registration at (425) 739-8104.

Q:  When will my grades be posted?

A:  Once your class has ended you can view your grades online as soon as your instructor posts them. Ask him/her when that will be. Otherwise, all grades are posted no later than ten days after the last day of the quarter. To check dates, visit the Academic Calendar on the Web site. Grades are not mailed.

Q:  How do I view my grades?

A:  You can view your grades by using the Student Toolbox grades page. You will need your Student ID and PIN number to view your grades.
