Welcome to Lake Washington Technical College!

The college has been serving the Eastside community in the Seattle, Washington area since 1949. This tour will give you an overview of the campus and our programs. Enjoy your time on our virtual campus; we hope to see you at the real LWTC in the near future!

The campus consists of three buildings: the East Building, the West Building and the new Technology Center (back, center).

Approximately 4,500 students attend each quarter.

The Technology Center (back center) houses the library, a large computer lab, science labs, the Multimedia Studio, several classrooms and many faculty offices.

The West Building (left) is home to Enrollment Services, administrative offices, the fitness center, Student Services, student government (ASG), an auditorium and some classrooms. Conference Services is also located in this building.

The East Building houses the manufacturing and transportation programs, engineering graphics, the allied health programs, and the Extended Learning.

You will also find the cafeteria; a restaurant; and a mall consisting of the bookstore, bakery, and floral shop. The division deans are located in this building as well.

The campus also is home to two large greenhouses, the focal point of our Horticulture program.

The arboretum, next to the greenhouses, is a great place to study or relax.

The area is maintained by the Horticulture program students and you will often see new flowers and shrubs each quarter.

There are many pieces of art on campus.

This one, called Changing Workplace: Past, Present, Future, is found outside the entrance to the East Building.

The latest art addition is the Post Tensioned Obelisk outside the new Technology Center.

The obelisk is 35 feet tall, composed of 7 pieces of granite stacked on top of each other and held together with a stainless steel threaded rod.

The on-campus bookstore offers supplies, cards, gifts, logo clothing, gear, and snacks in addition to books.

The store buys back textbooks year 'round so you can put some money back in your pocket and also purchase used books at a reduced price.

You can enjoy a hot or cold meal at the cafeteria or add a little luxury to your day by eating at the Chef City Grill restaurant on campus (pictured).

The bakery on the mall offers freshly baked goods several times a week for those days you want to grab a quick breakfast or satisfy a sweet tooth.

If you forget a birthday or special occasion, don't despair.

The floral shop on campus offers bouquets and arrangements special order or ready-to-buy.

A dental clinic is right on campus. It offers dental services to the public, including low-income patients, and provides a practice lab to our dental hygienist and dental assistant students.

A licensed dentist oversees the clinic.

The Evergreen Healthcare Center on campus offers free health screenings, physical exams and immunizations to low-income and uninsured residents of Evergreen's service area.

It also offers some health services to students and staff.

LWTC's newest campus in Redmond, Washington, is located next to beautiful Marymoor Park.

The campus has a corporate flavor and is able to house many training programs. Classrooms, conference rooms and a tiered auditorium are available for organizations to rent. Several classes are held here as well, including non-credit classes and basic educational courses.

The median age of our students is 33; 60% are female and 40% are male. Approximately 28% already hold a degree.

People of color make up nearly 30% of the student population.

The college provides an Early Learning Center where students can drop off their children, ages 12 months and walking through 10 years, while they attend school.

The center offers nurturing, age-appropriate environments and is staffed by early childhood professionals.

LWTC offers over 100 degree and certificate options in 39 programs grouped by five divisions: Business and Service; Health and Fitness; Information Technology; Manufacturing and Transportation Technologies; and Arts, Language, and Science.

We'll show you a few of them on this tour but there are many more to explore. You can see a listing of all programs on the program list page.

Is your idea of a fun evening preparing a six-course meal for friends and family? You may be a great candidate for the Culinary Arts program.

This program incorporates all facets of running a commercial restaurant.

The on-campus floral shop provides gorgeous floral arrangements and bouquets. They handle weddings and other special events as well.

Students in the Floristry program take special orders and create their own ready-to-buy arrangements.

The Nursing program, always popular, allows students to earn either the RN AAS degree, or the Practical Nursing degree or certificate. Another choice is the Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

The programs prepare students to take Washington state exams to become an RN, LPN or Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC).

The LWTC Fitness program prepares students to become fitness instructors or personal trainers.

The program has been hailed as a model community college program. Graduates often go to work at well-known fitness centers; one graduate even became a personal trainer for a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family.

The Computer Security and Network Technician (CSNT) program offers both degree and certificate options.

Students learn to become technical support personnel in a variety of positions such as software technicians, network technicians, computer operators, installers or help desk technicians.

The M2 Studio, part of the Multimedia Design and Production program, is where students create videos, CDs, DVDs and other media. Animation and game design is a popular track in this program.

Many projects are made-to-order for departments within the college, providing real-world experience to the students.

If the word "hog" conjures up images of two wheels and lots of chrome, you may be perfect for the Power Equipment, Marine and Motorcycle Service Technician program.

After training in core technologies in this program, students can choose a specialty area.

When you choose the field of electronics, you have a wide choice of industries to work in.

Students in this program often work in the bio-medical, telecommunications, aerospace and commercial broadcasting industries as well as the semiconductor industry.

A unique high school is located on the LWTC campus--the Lake Washington Technical Academy. Students who attend the Academy earn high school and college credit simultaneously.

International students find a welcoming environment at LWTC. Our international population covers many parts of the world including Germany, Korea, India, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Thailand, Taiwan, Uruguay, Gambia, Myanmar, and China!

Our instructors care a great deal about our students and their success.

Each faculty member has real-world experience in his or her field and maintains close contact with industry leaders. That way we can offer the most up-to-date curriculum based on what employers tell us they are looking for when hiring.

Our student-to-faculty ratio averages 18:1. A smaller class size means instructors can spend more time with each student.

The library, located in the new Technology Center, is an 18,000 square-foot facility housing 20,000 volumes. It serves the instructional needs of the college and provides a quiet place for students to meet, study or work on a computer. It is open to the public.

The library's upper level showcases a touch-sensitive globe lit from within.
